“This volume in the Making Good Choices series allows readers to explore actions and consequences in the everyday context of a trip to the library. Readers can choose the main character’s actions and are then directed to various endings, such as leaving the library after being too loud or getting to stay and enjoy the visit quietly. The charming illustrations highlight the characters’ expressions and thoughts. Unusually and commendably, although the main character is clearly depicted as a Muslim girl, her identity goes without comment; this is a story about behavior at the library. Thoughtful “Think Again” questions explicitly relate the situation in the story to the reader’s own life. This appealing book is not only a helpful teaching tool but also a pleasure for adults and children to read.”—Miriam Aronin

“A choose-your-own-adventure–style setup will keep readers engaged in the real-world scenarios of the Making Good Choices series. Each narrative volume presents a character with dilemmas that vary in complexity and scope and, at every crossroads, allows the reader to decide what happens next. An ending page discusses consequences and encourages readers to revisit the story while making different choices. The most straightforward of the bunch, You Can Be Responsible, follows Margo as she decides whether or not to clean her room like her mother asked. In You Can Make Changes, Yusra sees a rundown park in her neighborhood and must decide if spreading the word to her community will help. You Can Respect Differences is easily the weakest volume; while it promotes a positive message of inclusivity and challenging assumptions as Ben figures out how to talk to a girl who uses a wheelchair, it also consistently refers to people with wheelchairs as "different" and places the burden of communication on them. You Can Stop Bullying deals with the often-complicated scenario of handling childhood tormentors. Some volumes clearly have the correct path, while others are more nuanced, and the characters widely represent different skin tones and cultural backgrounds. An intriguing series of thought experiments that will get kids talking. ”—Maggie Reagan
