Amicus regularly provides internships to local college students, preferably senior English (or related) majors interested in learning the ins and outs of publishing for the school library market. Duties will include editing, proofreading, and general project management tasks related to publishing nonfiction children's books. (Projects will vary with publishing cycle.) 10-12 hours per week, stipend, college credit available. Must live close enough to come to our North Mankato, Minn., office twice per week, afternoon hours. The next available internship is Spring 2018; applications are accepted until filled. Amicus has a need for illustrators for elementary school children’s books—kindergarten through third grade. Projects are on a contract, per-project basis. Artwork needs to be bright, full-color renderings depicting playful and fun scenes. The art will illustrate text that has already been written by an author. Books are generally in a series of six each with 24 pages per book. Experience with illustrating for print helpful. To be considered send cover letter, resume and illustrator portfolio to Rebecca Glaser by email: or by mail: Amicus, P.O. Box 1329, Mankato, MN 56002.

For our school library imprints, all work is assigned on a per-project, work-for-hire basis. Writers should browse our catalog and become familiar with our current list to determine whether their skills are a good match for our books. We are currently publishing books for grades K–3. To be considered as a freelance writer, please send cover letter stating background and interests, resume, and two unedited writing samples to Rebecca Glaser by email: Applications are kept on file for one year.
